Terissa Aronson for SLC School Board, District 2

Welcome to the about page of Terissa Aronson, a dedicated candidate running for the St. Lucie County School Board. Terissa brings a wealth of experience, community involvement, and a passion for education to her campaign. Learn more about her background, accomplishments, and vision for St. Lucie Public Schools.

Currently serving as the President and CEO of the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, Terissa has been instrumental in facilitating various programs, including Leadership St. Lucie and Young Floridian. Both of these programs allow those around her to become their best selves while being more involved in the community. 

Terissa Aronson was born and raised in Newark, Ohio, in a loving family of six. Her father, a retired acoustical scientist, and her homemaker mother have been her biggest supporters in life. Terissa graduated from Newark High School and went on to Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s in Organizational Management. In 2004, she married her husband Bruce and relocated to St. Lucie County with her three stepchildren. 

As a dedicated and hands-on parent, Terissa prioritized spending quality time with her new family. She traversed St. Lucie Public Schools with her youngest stepchild, Brooke, as she progressed through Mariposa Elementary, Southern Oaks Middle School, and Port St. Lucie High School. Education has always been a fundamental value in Terissa’s household, and she proudly shares that Brooke obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic. Today, Brooke and her husband are practicing Chiropractors. Terissa’s daughter Jessica, who is now 37 years old, lives in Seattle and works for a successful marketing firm. They maintain a close bond and often travel together. Terissa’s oldest stepchild, Brian, resides in New York with his partner Melanie and their three children. 

Board Service & Accomplishments

Early Learning Coalition of SLC – Governor Appointee & Vice-Chair

As a firm believer in the importance of early childhood development, Terissa served as a Governor Appointee for the Early Learning Coalition of St. Lucie County. The coalition aims to provide a collaborative delivery system of quality child development programs and services to ensure children become competent and productive individuals.

Roundtable of St. Lucie County – Leaders United for Children

Terissa actively participates in the Roundtable of St. Lucie County, a collective effort of county and business leaders dedicated to improving the education, health, safety, nutrition, and care of all children in St. Lucie County.

Economic Development Council

Terissa contributed her expertise to the Economic Development Council, an organization dedicated to enriching the economic vitality of the community by attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses in St. Lucie County. The council collaborates with local governments and the private sector to create more and better-paying jobs, broaden the tax base, and enhance the county’s economic quality of life.

Tourism Development Council

Terissa served on the Tourism Development Council, overseeing the activities and allocation of bed tax collections in St. Lucie County. The council utilizes these funds to promote tourism through advertisements, partnerships, and other initiatives, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the local economy through increased visitors.

St. Lucie County Internal Audit Advisory Committee

Terissa played an active role in the St. Lucie County Internal Audit Advisory Committee, which provides oversight for the county’s internal audits of expenditures. Collaborating with an external firm hired to evaluate and audit county processes, the committee ensures transparency and accountability in financial matters.

Development Review Task Force – Chair

Terissa chaired the Development Review Task Force, working in conjunction with local government and Chamber partners, such as the Economic Development Council, Treasure Coast Builders Association, and Realtors. The task force reviews regulatory processes for businesses and makes recommendations to staff and policymakers, resulting in streamlined practices that reduce time and expenses for local businesses

 

Children’s Movement of Florida – Past Chair

Having served as the Past Chair of the Children’s Movement of Florida, Terissa has been a strong advocate for high-quality early learning opportunities, access to children’s healthcare, and parent support programs in Florida. The movement focuses on ensuring a strong start for all children in the state.

Port St. Lucie Historical Society – Treasurer

As the Treasurer of the Port St. Lucie Historical Society, Terissa contributed her financial expertise to this nonprofit organization. The society’s mission is to preserve and promote the historical heritage of Port St. Lucie through various initiatives and events.

The Port St. Lucie Historical Society, Inc., was incorporated as a Florida Not for Profit Corporation under Section 617 of the Florida Statues on April 3, 1997.
